Welcome to Daedalus demonstration video.

In this presentation, Darko will explain how to perform a balance check with Daedalus, for ada holders who have decided to take part in the Shelley Incentivized Testnet program.

As part of the preparations for the roll-out of the Shelley Incentivized Testnet, we are doing a balance check.

The aim of this is twofold.

First, it is to check that we can accurately capture a snapshot of all of the ada balances on the Cardano mainnet and launch a new Incentivized Testnet network with all of those balances copied as Testnet ada.

The second part is to ensure that this Testnet ada can accurately be retrieved with a special Daedalus version for the Incentivized Testnet.

We have taken a Balance snapshot of the Cardano mainnet at 12 UTC on the 12th of November. If you were holding ada at that time, your balance should have been accurately captured.

And if you were holding that ada in Daedalus, you should have access to the same amount of testnet ada with a special version of Daedalus
for the Incentivized Testnet. Copied mainnet wallets are called Balance wallets on the Incentivized Testnet. And they are marked with the "Balance" label in the user interface, which I will show a bit later.

This Balance snapshot is for testing purposes to help us ensure that the snapshot and the wallet recovery functions are working correctly.

You haven't missed out on the opportunity to participate in the Incentivied Testnet program if you are not participating in this phase.

We're currently targeting the end of November for the second, main snapshot, and the full roll-out of the Incentivied testnet.

To do a balance check, you will need the wallet recovery phrase for your Mainnet Daedalus wallet. Wallet recovery phrase is a list of
12 English words that you had written on paper or stored encrypted using a password manager or similar service when you were creating your mainnet wallet.

If you are unsure that you have the correct wallet recovery phrase, you can use the "wallet recovery phrase verification" feature to verify
that you have the correct one.

I will explain how this works.

Take your wallet recovery phrase from the safe place where you are keeping it and launch your mainnet Daedalus wallet. Select the wallet for which you want to verify your recovery phrase in the list of wallets
on the left side and click on "Settings" on the "More" tab. Click the "Verify wallet recovery phrase" button in the "Do you have your wallet recovery phrase?" section of the wallet settings page.

Make sure nobody can see or record your screen and confirm this by ticking the box and click "Continue". Enter the list of 12-words from your waller recovery phrase in the correct order and click verify.

You should see the "Verification successful" message on your screen if you have entered the correct wallet recovery phrase. In case you get a "verification failure" message, you can click the "Verify again" button to go back and re-enter your wallet recovery phrase.

If you have multiple wallet recovery phrases and you are not sure which one belongs to which wallet you can try entering one by one
until you find the correct one.

Scroll down on the page and click on the button for the operating system you are using to download the installer. After the download completes, click the downloaded installer and go through the installation process.

The "Balance check" version of Daedalus has installed. You can recognize this version of Daedalus by its icon, which has different colors and the "BALANCE TN" label. The application
name is also different; it is "Daedalus - Balance check" instead of "Daedalus".

Every time you launch this version of Daedalus, you will see this splash screen explaining that this is a special Dedalus version for
a Balance check, which connects to the Incentivized Testnet network.

"Learn more" button takes you to the Incentivied Testnet website.

You need to click the "I understand" button to proceed to the main user interface.

Daedalus quickly connects to the Incentivized Testnet network and synchronizes with the blockchain. You can always go back to the splash screen by clicking on this icon in the bottom-left in the user interface.

To restore your wallet, click the "Restore" button. To restore a regular Daedalus wallet, keep the "Wallet recovery phrase" tab selected. Alternatively, click the "Paper wallet recovery phrase" tab to restore a paper wallet. Choose a name for the wallet you are restoring. Keep the default selection of "12 words" in the recovery phrase to restore a copy of your mainnet wallet. Enter the list of 12-words from your recovery phrase in the correct order. Enter a mandatory spending password in the "Enter password" field. And repeat this password in the "Repeat password" field.

Click the "Restore wallet" button to start the restoration process. Your wallet will be quickly restored, and you should have the same balance as you had in your mainnet Dedalus wallet at 12 UTC on the 12th of November.

In my mainnet Daedalus wallet, I have a slightly different balance. My mainnet wallet has approximately7 ada less. This is normal because I have moved that ada after the Balance snapshot. And this is clear from the 4 transactions I have made on the 13th of November.

Incentivized Testnet will have starting ada balances from the exact point in time when the snapshot was made.

If you find that the balance in your Balance wallet doesn't match your mainnet Daedalus wallet, you should first make sure that you have not made any mainnet transactions before the snapshot, which will have changed that balance.

If the balances still don't match, please take a screenshot of your Balance wallet "Summary" screen and contact our support desk. You can do this from the support page in Daedalus settings.

Make sure you never send your wallet recovery phrase to nobody, including our support desk. So there you have it - that's how you recover your balance in the new Incentivized Testnet - Balance check Daedalus wallet. We're planning a very similar snapshot and recovery process when we do the real thing later this month.

If you like, you can move your mainnet ada back into a hardware wallet or any wallet of your choice for now. But make sure it's back in your Daedalus for the real snapshot later in November. The balance we capture then will be what you'll be working off during the Incentivized testnet phase.

Please create a support request if you have experienced any issued during this process to help us fix issues.

We'll keep you posted on the next steps. Make sure you are signed up to email alerts on the website to get the latest news.

I haven't run this with the program but I ran my wallet through the Yoroi extension and it worked like a breeze, absolutely perfect. Great work from both teams, hands down. Waiting with excitement for the start of the incentivised testnet. It should be an exciting time for ADA, potentially becoming the first truly PoS based token.

Thank you for the clear and simply explanation. However what is the purpose of the "Rewards Wallet" and should we ignore the warning for now? Or should we transfer all our ADAs into the Rewards Wallet? I mean, at this moment I have five different wallet and they are recovered correctly in the testnet Daedalus, I successfully created one Rewards Wallet. Should I create a separate Reward Wallet for each of my wallets, or should I have only one rewards wallet and transfer all my ADA into that? Or one balance wallet and one rewards wallet? I clicked on the "learn more" link but that article does not mention what is the good practice with the rewards wallet.

I managed to open the Daedalus Balance check wallet once by shutting down my antivirus but from time to time the wallet just goes back to "syncing blocks" page, and the % goes backwards (from 96%..to 95% and so on..) the only way to "fix" it is by stopping the node and making the wallet load everything again. I have no idea what to do. As well, most of the time whe I'm trying to start the wallet (all this with antivirus off) it get's stuck saying "starting cardano node" ... Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? (Sorry for the bad english level)

Stuck at "Starting Cardano Node". I tried on two different PCs - the behavior is the same.
Errors from the logs:

Nov 18 18: 39: 08.313 INFO failed to connect to peer, reason: Connection failed The destination computer rejected the connection request. (os error 10061)
Nov 18 18: 39: 18.270 INFO failed to connect to peer, reason: The attempt to establish a connection was unsuccessful, because the required response was not received from another computer in the required time, or an already established connection was disconnected due to an incorrect response from the already connected computer. (os error 10060)

My ada were in Yoroi mobile before the snapshot. Can i consult those in Daedalus by using my Yoroi recoverywords in the testnet wallet by restoring my wallet?

I love you’re thoughtful processes and I love the model of Cardano. But please dear god employ someone who knows I little more about user experience! So far it’s terrible, I try to stay up to date with a few projects I like but yours is slipping. I understand building is your priority at the moment and marketing and the user friendly surface is probably down the line for you guys but it’s falling behind compared to other projects.
