Ok we're air borne. Roger, turn left heading 070 and you're clear to land at the correct airport. By the way your boss is waiting for you.

this happened about 2 miles from my house. that is a tiny airstrip. It is impressive how they miraculously landed on it. that air field is mainly for twin engine props. There was no damage to the runway. it took them an entire day to get it taken off. a certain vehicle was needed to turn it around and it was about 15 miles away at ICT mid continent/Eisenhower airport. it had to travel on a highway to get there. It only moves at 20-30 mph. It broke down halfway and go back for repair and start over again. they had to evacuate the high way next to Jabarra cause it would fly low directly over it and they were afraid that its thrust would blow the cars of the high way. But it was able to take off.

A few points. A 747-400 with full passengers and max fuel or full fuel and as many pax as possible uses between 9000 and 10500ft of runway. When I was deployed in the military I have seen low weight 747's use 1/4 of a 12500ft runway in desert heat. Do not confuse max weight performance with max performance weight. 747's can get up fast.

I can hear Scotty's voice saying "I'm giving her all I got Capt!"

Apparently, from the first video ATC flight recording, they were navigating using and relying on an improved / modified GPS guidance system. Which was off synch / delay report, like the altimeter. Even their GPS stopped location was off somewhat from the mapped location.

Who gets this in recommended 7 years later?

I guess the cargo was unloaded first?
I wasn't sure they'd be able to fly it out of there - awesome!

Pretty cool that they were able to take off safely.  I didn't realize we made planes that big, lol.

I live here and I watched this. Its not just landing at the wrong airport but its an airport designed for single engine up to a small business jet. They had to unload everything from the plane and truck it to Boeing/Spirit. The fear was the runway was going to be too short. I have lived on Air Force Bases most of my life and I have never seen a craft that big take off in that short of a distance. He tore that runway to pieces.

"Captain, would like to use maximum take-off thrust (MTO)?" "Umm...I think we probably should. And we'll probably need clean underwear after take off."

For those of you thinking this was the SAME crew that landed-THINK AGAIN!-Boeing flew in their BEST Test Pilots to successfully take off from that short runway

You guys have any idea how similar runways look at night with no visual reference for depth perception.  Listening to the tapes, one of the towers was closed, which leads me to believe this was in fact at night.

I love the view right as it's lifting off.  We get a great size comparison of the other planes parked at the airport.  Too funny.  Those pilots who landed there may be looking for a new job soon.

😂 My son flew Atlas 747’s and the Dream Lifter. Obviously, this wasn’t him because he still flies Prime Air 767’s (Atlas)

Was there need ofuel off-loaded to reduce weight? Backing ito thend of the runway, how close were the wheels to thend of the runway?
How much runway was left upon takeoff?
Was this the coldest part of the day for most dense air?

Per the WX info in the notes for this video winds were 18kts gusting to 26kts so this in effect makes the 6100' runway longer. With the 747 light, with cool temps, and a strong head wind the result was an uneventful departure.

Get the right A/P next time guys!!!
