When Dorothy Hallam paid 150 pounds for a film camera 60 years ago, people thought she'd gone insane — but it didn't take long for her to make her money back.

Between 1961 and 1983, Dorothy filmed 176 stories for ABC News and she is considered to be the first female camera operator to shoot film for the organisation.

For the first time since they were broadcast, some of her films have been brought out of the archive and digitised.

ABC News provides around the clock coverage of news events as they break in Australia and abroad, including the latest coronavirus pandemic updates. It's news when you want it, from Australia's most trusted news organisation.
