KNIN FOX 9 News at 9:00 (Full), 10/4/2023

Complete 9pm newscast from Marquee Broadcasting's Fox affiliate in Boise, Idaho. Recorded on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

Gray Television, the previous owner of KNIN, announced on February 15, 2023, that it would trade KNIN-TV to Marquee Broadcasting, in exchange for Marquee's WPGA-TV, serving the Macon, Georgia market. The station swap would complete a key objective for Gray by giving it a full-service station in every market in Georgia, the company's home state.The swap was completed on May 1, 2023.

Starting on Monday, October 2, Marquee severed ties with E.W. Scripps, whose KIVI-TV previously operated KNIN. Journal, KIVI's previous owner, actually owned KNIN outright but sold it to Raycom Media in 2015, to alleviate market concentration concerns when Scripps bought out Journal. Gray assumed ownership of KNIN in 2019 when they bought out Raycom. Still though, KIVI maintained operations and news production for KNIN until Monday.

After initially considering launching their own newscasts, Marquee instead outsourced the newscasts to Sinclair's KBOI-TV. While news articles seem to suggest only the newscasts were taken over by KBOI, I actually suspect Sinclair is now operating KNIN on Marquee's behalf, which would make sense since KNIN didn't have their own technical infrastructure before, being that KIVI operated KNIN. I can tell because Sinclair's L-frame ticker stays up during the morning news' commercial breaks, and KBOI is able to insert a time/temp for KNIN seamlessly with no issue.

I also suspect this arrangement came together rather quickly and that Marquee likely had a six-month transition arrangement with Scripps. Scripps' graphics can still be seen on various sponsor bumps and I guess over time, Marquee/Sinclair will update the overall station imaging. The opens feature an updated logo, but the old logo is still seen on everything else.

KBOI moves their morning and 9pm newscasts they were doing for their CW station, KYUU, over to KNIN. The newscasts air at the same timeslots they were before (weekday mornings from 7-8am and daily from 9-10pm).

The newscasts are pretty much the same look and feel as a KBOI-TV newscast with their team and style. The graphics are Sinclair's standard "TABS" package, music is their standard custom theme from Warner Chappell Music, and the voiceover artist in the open is Steve Kamer (Bill Murray is still used in all of the other station imaging, but I am guessing Marquee will probably replace him with John Beach in the coming months).

I can confirm. Sinclair now operates KNIN under a Facilities and Services Agreement. The document is available at the station's Public FCC File.

Yeah... _I don't like this._ Especially since the open had little to no effort put into it (referring to the station logo animation, that is).

What was Marquee thinking when it came to the decision to not make separate KNIN newscasts at the 11th hour? They have several successful and profitable news operations in markets even smaller than Boise, like Bowling Green and Salisbury. Surely they could put the same effort into Boise to get a fourth news operation going again, as they’re large enough for four news operations, and they’ve had four.
