This week we have stories about Googles Pixel 9 Pro Phones and their cameras, as well as the AI discussion. Canon Rumors says "sorry" for getting info wrong about a rumored 200-500mm F4 RF lens. And finally, this in my opinion is a SCAM, sorry Sony, Niko, Canon, Fuji, Tamron, Sigma and anyone else who "won" an award. This is YOUR Photo News Fix!!!

Want to send us gifts, swag, letters...here's our P.O. BOX

Yep. People are starting to want the Disney Studio fantasy instead of reality in their portraits. Just say no. I mean cameras themselves create fantasies: They can add red to people with warm faces because of the IR; the sharpness on sports camera settings can "see" wrinkles more than we do. But in those cases, I"m pushing back towards reality, not making clay-mation fakes. Capture the human warmth. Don't populate the imaginary world of droid.

This trend only builds more value into your work if you can protect the sense of authenticity.

The same thing happened to me. I was voted as Best of Georgia for Photography and they want to charge me several thousand dollars to claim the award and be published in their magazine. It’s just a money grab and I have declined it since watching your IG video about it. I appreciate your opinion on the matter. Always have, and will be, one of my favorite and most trusted content creators!

I'll never be able to afford an f/2.8 long focal length lens as a hobbyist, but I can see where pros should have them. It's like reading about the latest Bugatti. Sure, it's fun to imagine driving one, but at the end of the day it's waste of neurons when the price matches a year's worth of mortgage payments. Computational photography is cool. It's like in-camera Photoshop. Over use it and things get too weird though. Jared makes a good point about capturing what's amazing about the real world instead of fantasy. Enjoy your $12, 000 lens, Jared!

The only way it will surprise me is if they make it a 200-600mm. Everyone knows this lens should be a 200-600mm, the Sony and Nikon 200-600mm lenses are highly sought after, especially if a used one pops up for sale. But of course Canon being Canon, they can't help but short us someway, somehow...smdh.🤬🤬

True. A lot of brides expect photographers to make them look 50 pounds thinner. It is an unreasonable expectation that is born from photoshop. Even more unreasonable expectations will be born from ai.

Yes, a lot of photographers could make people look thinner, but it is extremely time consuming. Photography bills will be much higher and no one will be willing to pay that much money just for pictures. Rich people can certainly pay for heavily photoshopped images. Average people can’t.

Yep, just another made up thing to get people to spend money. If you have to give someone money so you can win an award, it's not worth it. And yes, I saw your safari video and pics and felt like I was watching a wildlife documentary. I liked the personal notes seeing all the photographers along with you on the trip. A good photo doesn't need to be manipulated to tell a story, if you think it does, then it wasn't good enough photo from the start.

Those awards are usually created to promote the companies behind the awards. In Germany we had a major scandal. In a prank some people pretended to represent Ryan Gosling and indicated that he might be willing to attend and award ceremony, but only if he gets an award. So a new award category was quickly created just to make sure that Ryan Gosling gets an award. As it was a prank, a "double" of Ryan Gosling was sent to the ceremony and really made it in stage. That shows how corrupt awards are.

Will somebody ever create a smartphone that respects the shape of the human hand? How can camera companies and game console companies get cameras and gamepads so right but smartphone makers seemingly only know how to make flat rectangles?

I got this from my college today wanted me to give the school more money to be apart of a 'honors society'. Paying to be apart of something is always a scam.

We have similar "awards" organisations in Australia. You have to pay to enter the awards then pay HEAPS if you "win", to put the sticker on your products / websites. It's a total scam from start to finish.

hollyland lark MII is a fantastic system. I actually use it more than my DJI mic two system now just because its the easiest system to use, and audio quality is outstanding

You know when you zoom in on the subject with a 400mm you get that shallow depth of field. That always happens. All sport photographers shoot at f4 or f5.6 on the sidelines for NFL, MLB, etc. You need to adjust your bases and lear a little in the real world.
