Mystras is located very close to the city of Sparta, in Lakonia Greece. One of the most preserved Castle cities of medieval times, Mystras was firstly build by William II Villehardouin in the year 1249 A.D. The reason for building a castle in the top of this hill (where the locals named Mizithras), was his plans to keep a close eye to a fierce tribe of locals who lived in the hills of the Taygetos mountain and disturbed the trade routes from Sparta to Kalamata. The experienced William II Villehardouin saw in these hill top, a perfect location to build his castle and look on the natives. The big castle was concluded on 1249 A.D.
