Are waist level viewfinders on point and shoot film cameras a gift or a gimmick? Join me as I show you selected images from a roll of film I shot on the Canon Sure Shot Ace using only the waist level viewfinder or "easy viewer" as it's called.

Have you used a super scope on a P&S? What were your shots like? Let me know in the comments.

I am convinced Matt has the BEST assortment of not your average run of the mill cameras! 📸 I remember using this Yashica in the 90s (???) and it was hugely popular amongst the skateboarding crowd (at least it was where I lived) so we could shoot at low angles of our friends at the skatepark. I truly appreciate the content Matt provides to the film/camera community - always a great guy, funny and informative! I enjoyed the photos Matt - the cost of buying the film and developing it and sharing it with us all - thank you! ❤ Another fabulous video! (Hilarious Phil Collins reference too!😂)

You gave way too many fails when none failed! The seaside pic with the person in frame is very cool! 👍

I like the Ace viewfinder and the remote, it adds a little variety and the pics can be straightened easily if you find it necessary.

I've only used that scope on a T4 and a T5 once or twice, but honestly ... it was sorta helpful! You can't really compose much with that (at least with as little as I practiced it), but it definitely helped me get one or two tricky shots. I even tried the overhead periscope thing. I never knew Canon had one of those! Theirs looks a bit larger and more useful than Yashica's, really.

I would say, that all of those horizons can be saved in editing. Yes, you'll have to crop, but if your scans have decent resolution, that's not a big problem. Consider your panorama shots and how much they are cropped compared to regular 35mm shots...
For me, as I wrote to you on Instagram, it's a great tool for street photography, because you don't have to put the camera up to your eye, which people always react to.

I have not used such a point-and-shoot, but a fellow CCR host (Trevor Black) used the one on the T5 when he was gliding, which was a gift for him! Excellent results, even the fails!

The seaside photo is really nice! I would shift the horizon in Light Room and call it good. 👍

Think for most of these shots you'd use a viewfinder anyway. It's probably more useful when you want to shoot low (but not lie down), shoot high or especially for street. Just like Wish Diana intended.

I use the t3 for closer street shot, you can get closer to people without being too noticeable, although the WLF plastic reflect a lot of light so it's very difficult to see, plus the mirrored image, it's sort of a pain. Also the autofocus might only focus on the center, if you press the focus after composing (subject not in center) it might not get it right. I'll def need a looot more practice.

For digital I love to flip my screen up for waist level framing! It looks considerably more difficult with these little guys.

Hey I was just wondering if in every shot of the sure shot was the flash going off? And do u think it would be okay to just cover it with black tape? Thanks, love the mix of c200 and that lens

You could say a Hip-steer camera. I guess the issue is the size of the viewfinder, and it had to be that small to keep the camera’s form.

This might be late, but I keep noticing how it's often angling upon taking a straight shot. Is that the case for this camera?

I think you are a little too hard on yourself.
