As someone who's listening to Apocalyptica for the first time in a while, I don't understand the new vs old debate.
But, what I can say is that if a band wishes to change, let them change. If you don't like their music, don't listen to it.
End of story.

I love it! Seriously, i get that Franky isn't the "Metal voice" you are used to when it comes to Apocalyptica but COME ON! They guy is obviously a great singer and the sound he has with the band is awesome! I personally am a big fan of high range melodic vocals and Franky brings it! Saw them live Twice last week and he absolutely killed it! With the new and old songs. I know others don't agree but i hope he sticks around, Shadow maker (the song) Is brilliant!

Come on people, it's not like Apocalyptica has actual words in every song they've ever put out. Every band changes it up from time to time. Regrdless I will still love them.

Those complaining about this song, the new vocalist and the band's new approach have more than likely not listened to the new album in its entirety. Have more than likely not watched any promotional interviews about the new album. Have more than likely not seen a live performance since the release. And should not consider themselves fans.

While beginning this new album, the band didn't even have a record deal. So you're "sellout" theories are not only ridiculous, but untrue. They wanted their own voice for once. They've even said this was a selfish album because they were tired of guest vocalists (not that they're not appreciative and haven't loved those opportunities). It was getting old and repetitive. They wanted to create an album they were passionate about and loved. They wanted to be able to present the album live the way it should be since having only guest vocals limited that very much. They handpicked Franky. After hearing him sing a demo of the song Hole in My Soul (an incredibly beautiful song on the new album), they knew immediately he was their guy. They pushed back and rescheduled many opportunities in order to work with one of the best producers there is. They spent almost two months in Nashville in preproduction just to make this album as amazing as it is. They wanted a personal,   more intimate sound. They wanted a big sound but not too huge. They wanted a band album.

They're extremely proud of this album. Each member is so proud of it. Listen to the album in its entirety. Even though technically there are more vocal tracks, the instrumentals are so long and so epic that they take up half of thr albums time. Go see them live ASAP. Or just watch recent HD live performances on youtube. You'll see how amazing Franky is. He's so talented and so versitile. He can give you the heavy hitting screams and also give you those impeccably fragile notes. He's an astounding addition to the band.

And those commenting "oh you're pop now. Fuck that. Blah blah blah" crap, shut up. This band is not afraid to admit that some of their music is pop. They don't claim to be an entirely metal band. They all love metal and they all enjoy playing it but they're not afraid to dabble in other genres. I mean, come on. Who cares about the genre? The music is good. The music is beautiful.

Shadowmaker is Apocalyptica. This is not them selling out. This is them creating and presenting something that they did for their own selves. Yes, fans loving the music is important but they don't care in total about that. They care that they have released something they're passionate about, proud of and love deeply. This album is for them. We were just lucky they decided to share it with us.

Wow! A lot of negative comments down below. Since when have we in musical history ever expected a band, musician or composer to remain the same through their musical life journey? (with the exception of Bach, not sure he really changed, .... can sense him 2 bars in!)
If Apocalyptica remained the same they would be floating partially on the coat tails of Metallica? I think the boys deserve a lot more respect than that
Studio recordings are made to be played on your stereo. How they achieve the same sound live will be and is an exciting adventure!
Got my tickets for Vancouver! And I cant wait to see what they do with the songs live!

I don't understand the people who came here to say this sounds like pop, ok, this is not too heavy like Apo used to be, but have you ever listen pop music? Britney Spears is pop, Taylor Swift is pop, Lady Gaga is pop, etc, I don't hear nothing like that in the Shadowmaker album and say pop like it was a bad thing, (?) it's just another genre, different, and if Apo is your favorite band or one of your favorites, you should know the difference, or maybe I just have to think that too much people here is very ignorant...
