Are you on TRT and told you have to donate blood?
If so, you’re not alone. In fact, the vast majority of providers tell patients that donating blood is a MUST. But, luckily Justin Groce is here to evaluate why it’s not a necessary practice.

This is not all together true. My hematocrit was always around 48. Six months into TRT it was 52. One year on TRT it was 55. At the 18 month mark it was 57.

I’m O+ so I started donating. Sure my ferritin drops but so what. I feel crappy for a few days but after eating steak every night I’m back to feeling better. Plus I’m helping someone else with my donation. This whole crashing ferritin thing is not as bad as people say.

Excellent video. So glad you mentioned sleep apnea. That was it for me. My hematocrit was hitting 56 or so. Getting diagnosed with sleep apnea and then starting CPAP brought it down to about 45-46. Dramatic difference. Hematocrit seems to be a bigger issue the older you get as well. Definitely get a sleep lab done and get a CPAP if you have sleep apnea.

However, on the other side, why not? 30min of your time every 90days which could save someone's life when they need it the most, win-win.

Great video. I get close to high every year and then donate. Then I’m usually good for a year. I don’t like donating blood, but I plan to do it every 3 months because I’m passionate about helping others even though it’s uncomfortable to me. I don’t need to do it too often, but I have grown to want to do it thanks to TRT encouraging me to initially.

I can say this is still tricky. I’m at 60.5 crit. I’m starting to notice joint pain when it gets to this point. Mid 50s I’m fine but 60 seems to cause joint pain. But donating crashes my ferritin and within a few weeks I’m right back to where I was. This is one peace I wish I could balance better.

mine was high from sleep apnea and dropped when I got on CPAP. Unfortunately a lot of providers out there will stop your TRT if you have high H&H and make you stay off until your H&H tests what they consider "normal"

After a year on TRT of 200mg split weekly, My hematocrit is at 42.5.  was 36.7. normal range by the doctor is 40.0 -50.0 body weight went up 14lbs within the year. Blood pressure went down from 123/77, now Blood pressure 108/62 which I thought was a little too low.

Great video, yes I had hi hemadicrit 56 told I had polythycimia and will have a stroke, they try to get blood at a cancer therapy and said my blood too thick to take out, I went to give blood after they said I get a stroke blood clot anytime, been on TRT for two years no stroke but do go to give blood regularly, so do you think I don’t need to give blood ?

I followed my provider's directions to donate blood every 2 months. My H/ H levels were always good in the mid range. My H/H 3 months after starting TRT ( in december) were the same ( I had donated blood once by that time ). I continued to donate in Feb, April, and June. My H/ H crashed after the June donation, and now i have Mild Anemia, so I am quite upset about this. I know it may take months to get back to normal . I've been fatigued for a few wks now. so I agree with the video. I think my provider should have been doing more frequent blood work on me, and this could have been prevented, I think. I got this APP on my phone that measures HCT. ( takes pic of your fingernail beds ). Has anyone used this? is this a good way to monitor your HCT?

Funny thing is when I was on 120mg test cyp split into 2 shots a week, my hematocrit was always high, 54-57. Doctors would always want me to stop for a month at a time for it to return to normal. I always told them I felt fine and never stopped, as I knew that would be a bad idea. I decided to do a little blast and bump my test up to 200mg a week. After being on that for 4 months my hematocrit was in normal range!! It’s weird. Lower the dose for me equals higher hematocrit. Weird

Mine's low, and I’m even anemic now. Of course I have constant slight blood loss from blood thinners and another issue… glad I didn’t just follow the bro science and donate blood

If u increase natural test. Hemocrit doesn’t rise. I wonder why external test sets off hemocrit levels

I keep donating blood and mine won't lower. It's frustrating because I am having to lower my does of cream from 100 to 95. I have been at this for a year. I was really hoping I'd be at 200 mg on the cream by this time with well in normal range of test. I'm going to chug water next time.

Yes it saves lives to donate blood but if you're a performance athlete then you're better off either not doing it or only doing it in the off season. I know that sounds selfish but you have to decide what's most important for you. I mean why do you think runners or endurance athletes used to do blood doping?

Hey, I have a question so I have been using opioids for over a year now and my blood work came back with a test level of 339ng/dcL and I got prescribed trt at age 21. I’m currently going through withdrawal so does it make sense to go on trt until my withdrawal is over and then quit or just not take trt at all? I hope you can help me out thank you

I donate blood because when my hematocrit is too high (54-56 I get terrible head aches pressure in my head, and I drink a gallon a day of water, walk 45 minutes daily.

Donating blood is important for overall health. It brings down high hemoglobin, reduces your risk of certain cancers, lowers hematocrit which is important regardless of what this guy says, reduces risk of cardiovascular disease and oh ya helps people in need of blood. There really isn’t any downfalls in donating
