TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew battled for the survival of the hugely popular video-sharing app in Washington on March 23, 2023, as he faced a barrage of accusations from lawmakers over the company's alleged ties to China and about the hazards the app allegedly poses for teenagers. Members of the US House of Representatives said they fear Beijing could subvert the site for spying and harvesting data. The US federal government and more than two dozen US states have banned government employees from using TikTok on official work devices, and other nations including those in Europe and Canada have followed suit.

If those lawmakers have make their mind, attending the hearing is just a formality to follow procedure before banning.

If the US decides to ban TikTok, then so be it. However, if US tech giants like Meta, Twitter, YouTube, Google, aren’t held to the same standard when it comes to data privacy, addictive algorithms, and the mental health of young people, then I feel this whole discussion is LESS about these issues and enacting policy to address these concerns. Rather, this discussion is MORE about communist paranoia and McCarthyism because TikTok has ties to the Chinese government.

The way they interupt him while he's speaking is disgusting, the land of freedom huh? What a bunch of cowards

If you accuse tik tok of spying, why the US law don't convict fb first. Tik Tok is a social and media platform for everyone to share their talent on the world stage. Those data are global open. Everyone willingly post their talent like a performer. What's the secret he was accuse of. I am scratching my head of the idiotic claims from the US judge unethically questioning him or making him defending himself.

It is so much easier to make false accusation than to explain it, this grilling is a tactic to make the answerer mentally tired and say wrong things

Lol, they weren't interested in fact-finding or listening to any of the CEO's answers

They just want to ban the app and are looking for any excuse to do it

Gotta love how the US lawmaker accuse with no evidence, just giving no base data and played the ccp card everytime 😂.

Very proud of TikTok CEO performance. He did well. It is not easy to explain to a bunch of Lawmakers (?) who were not interested in the CEO's replies anyway.

The hypocrisy is astounding. They are not listening to a single word Mr Shou was saying.

Face it, they wouldn't have a problem with them if they were an American company

"Does Tiktok access the home wifi network?"
This is the literal question they asked 💀

They're grilling him not allowing to finish his sentence and obviously accusing him as if there's already a verdict or proof that his app is "spying". Y'all that US based app like Facebook is gathering information of users but for them it is legal 😂

I'm more worried about the U.S. Government than I am about the Chinese Government...the U.S. Government allowed Trump to be President.

Also. You know what they say. If you can’t buy it. Just destroy it. Ironic how the US were the one wanted to buy tiktok before this.
