TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testified before Congress for more than five hours on Thursday as lawmakers push for a nationwide ban on the app, citing concerns over security, data storage and possible connections to China’s government. NBC News’ Julie Tsirkin breaks down whether Chew’s testimony was enough to assure lawmakers that TikTok is safe for Americans to use and how content creators are reacting to calls to ban the social media app.

Isn't other companies (Google etc) just as complicit in this matter?

This TikTok CEO seems like a nice guy. These congressmen are grilling the wrong dude.

Like they are going to tell how they are using the information. Waste of time again. Wish they would actually accomplish something once.

Everyone on the committee had their minds already made up and just used this guy as a prop to seem self-important and pander to their voter base. Just awful. Constantly talked over him; never let him answer; threw trap question after trap question (example of a trap question: "Are you still beating your wife; yes or no? Just answer yes or no! Oh, so you stopped beating her then but you were earlier"). Also to the committee, thanks for reinforcing every single stereotype that you legislate laws on things you know absolutely nothing about. "If I connect tiktok to my home wifi, does tiktok access my home internet?" "If I use tiktok, will that maliciously drain my phone's battery?"

Congress did not “grill”. They embarrassed themselves. Just admit it NBC. Or are you scared too because TikTok has better news?

Why is everyone so worried about them collecting data anyway, lots of companies do it.
