Practicing gratitude was one of the first steps to overcome my deep, severe depression. At first my mind was so horribly twisted that i could not write down a single thing I was grateful for, without bitter resentment attached to it, but I started slow, and as I wrote down more and more things, my worries, pain and hatred washed away.
It wasn't a quick fix or a long lasting result, because gratitude needs to be practiced regularly, but it is to date the single most powerful shift I have ever felt, and it was simply by practicing real, honest gratitude.
