Yesterday as the hurricane blew in I was shocked and horrified at how many people were posting videos from areas expecting large storm surges. Some had babies and small children in the videos, were on porches of 1 story homes and they acted as if they had NO CLUE that a hurricane is more than wind and that the water was coming. I told my Dad I had concerns about a staggering loss of life due to so many people oblivious to what a storm surge was and that soon the water was coming. Millions have moved to the area since a major hurricane last hit the gulf side and seemed to have absolutely no idea what was coming. The Florida government seems to have utterly failed to educate people about the stages of a hurricane and what a storm surge is. PSAs explaining the hurricane drags the ocean in with it and if you stay you will find yourself in the ocean in a raging storm, crazy currents, debris filling the churning black water you will be in if you don't leave. When a monster came to TX local law enforcement flooded the airwaves and pushed the message, "The water will come and be very high, if you stay please write your social security number on your forearms with a permanent marker so we can identify your body. You must leave now or you will die, leave now." It worked well. Very few died and those who did were easily identified by their SS # in permanent marker on their extremities.
