Hi Everyone,

In this video we will be learning about Input and Output tables.

When we are looking at input and output tables we can think of a machine where a number is put into the machine and a different number comes out.

The first question we want to ask ourselves is did our output value get larger or smaller in our input and output table.

If we were to look at our first set of number 12 and 3 in an input and output table , 12 is our input and 3 is our output. We placed the number 12 in our machine and the number 3 came out.

Since we started off with the number 12 and we got a smaller number and since our value decreased, we can ask ourselves the next question:

What operations that involve whole numbers make numbers smaller?

The four operations we have in math are multiplication, division, subtraction and addition.

The two operations that make numbers larger are multiplication and addition.

The two operations that make numbers smaller are division and subtraction. Since our number became smaller, we know that the rule will involve division or subtraction.
