In this video, I play a blitz chess game against former US Champion, GM Sam Shankland in Titled Tuesday. Sam walked into a very dangerous variation of the Jobava London and then stumbled into a rare and elegant trap.

Its not just any grandmaster - its Sam Shankland. Wow!

Shankland is one of the best prepared GMs yet eric manages to trap him in the opening. GG Eric!

"Eric Rosen should have been a grandmaster" - Hikaru Nakamura

The results on the board agree with Hikaru!

Fun fact: Sam Shackland would've had an amazing tournament, ending up in the top 5, but Eric Rosen's victory cratered his chances of success.

Lmao Nigel Short, Benjamin Bok (who barely save the game with a draw) and now Sam Shankland, this line seems to be very poisonous for unprepared GMs

"Let's see how booked up Sam Shankland is"
This guy has no fear

Your modesty is so refreshing in the age of clickbait titles. I clicked on this thinking it would be some random GM, not a former US champion.

Rh3 is such a threat while being so hard to see, of course even GM's might fall for this in blitz!
Such a beautiful trap !

Just letting you know, you are the best chess teacher I have ever come across. I don’t know if you will ever read this, but I hope my well wishes reach you. Thank you!

Why is Eric not a GM? He has such a great memory. Maybe he doesn't want to change his name.

the fact that its Shankland makes this even more hilarious since he hates openings like the Jobava London

That Rh3 kinda reminds me of the new famous scotch line: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nxc6 bxc6 6. e5 Qe7 7. Qe2 Nd5v8. h4!? and there are some aggressive Rh3-e3-b3 manuevers, what can be really annoying and a7 is weak. It's a good opening to crush masters, especially if they play f6 or d6 and you're good at positional style, as you have a slight advantage

I'd assume the only move with any chance of survival is for black to put the bishop on A6 and sac it to the white bishop. At least in that line you don't trap your rook, but it all seems pretty horrible.

Sam probably fell off his chair laughing at Rh3

Well, Sam was flyin' over 3000 high, so he was taken down with Rosen's SAM. ;)
