There's an old Korean saying, "there's only 3 times a man is allowed to cry in life. Once when he is born, once when his parents die, lastly when he gets dirt in his eye."

It's the media's fault?  What are you even talking about at this point?  Women cry more because no one, men or women respect or respond positively to a man crying in any except a very few cases.  Women and men are both just fine with women crying and it will often get women a positive response.  Our society rewards female crying and punishes male crying, why are you blaming the media?  It seems like it has been this way for human history, I'll admit I don't know every aspect of human history so I could be wrong completely or in part.

6-17 times per year!  I think i cried that many times my whole life not counting when I was a baby.

Adult tears are often used as a tool of manipulation. Keep that in mind.

There is no shame in crying. As a man, I admit that I have cried. However, it is absurd to assume that the disparity between the frequency of men crying and women crying is entirely attributable to men not being fully honest about the fact that they have cried. It just could be, as gender differences have been shown to shape brain function, as revealed through brain scans, biological gender differences could cause differences in the way we react to life.

I don't understand why every time a report like this comes out people (feminists in particular) seem almost desperate to explain the differences between men and women as the result of societal constructs. I mean we know that it's beneficial from an evolutionary perspective for women to form a strong emotional attachment to their offspring. That's not as true for men given that passing their genes on can be done just as, or more efficiently by impregnating multiple women. It seems obvious therefor that women would be more nurturing,  form stronger emotional attachments, and be more empathetic. All things that would explain stronger emotions, and more frequent emotional reactions. Now I'm not saying it's impossible for the results of this study to be the result of society, but it seems to be a less obvious answer. The motivation for such an argument seems to me to be a political one, not one based on evidence. All that being said I cry more, and more often than my wife, but movies, and TV are the only things that have given me a reason to cry in years.

Not trying to be a super manly tough guy here, I can honestly say I haven't cried in probably 5 years. I do think women are inherently more emotionally unstable.

Jenn cries every day? And she thinks it's possible men also cry every day, but just don't  feel comfortable to report it.... Sorry man that's pretty closed minded.

As a man, I can honestly say, I surely cry less than 30-64 times a year, (DAMN that's a lot) and probably more towards the 6-17 number. You don't see men crying as much in public as women, in private it's exactly the same. It's not like when we come home and if we're alone all of a sudden we'll be crying all day because nobody sees it.

And you know people can be sad without crying right?

I don't buy that the differences between men and women (in terms of behaviour) is only a social construct. I don't mind the idea that a man can cry as much as a woman (I don't see crying as a feminine trait, but rather something humans can do), but I think it's wrong to think that everyone handles hardship and emotional pain in the same way. Not everyone want to or need to cry, even if they're hurting. A lot of men just turn it inwards and become very quiet and contemplative. I've often done that, despite having no problem with crying if I need to.

men cries less. because in child hood if a boy cries one of the parents. will say "BOYS DON'T CRY ONLY GIRLS DO".
and that carries on to adulthood.

The last time I cried was when I rewatched DBZ, and Vegeta sacrificed himself to destroy Buu.

women do cry more, but we're just more sensitive to things, It's not because of some positive response bullshit, most of us don't do it on purpose, not because of social media, we are technically more emotionally unstable, and we just have to accept it

College makes me cry nearly every day.

It's not because of media. It's not because of cultural stereotypes. It's because of genetics. Why can't we just accept the fact that men and women are built differently? Why is it so hard to understand the biology behind crying? The more vulnerable a person is, the more they are likely to have a propensity to crying, because crying is a mechanism designed to elicit sympathy from others. The less ability an individual has to defend themselves physically, the more advantagous it is for them to have the ability to make stronger individuals want to protect them--that's why babies are always crying. And since nature has created an obvious size and strength difference between men and women, it should be no surprise that women are designed to be more predisposed to the crying tactic, seeing as how it balances out a males greater physical prowess. That is, men have the muscles, but women have the tears. It's not really a mystery.

We less because we see it less on TV?
Seriously?
I'd say social constructs is the one of the smaller factors in this.

So, we're not allowed to talk about how often black people are getting shot by police because we're white males, but women are allowed to tell us why we don't feel like crying? This world is hilariously stupid.
