Genos 2 - Making dance music with Style Creator and Multipads

In this video I talk about making dance music with Genos 2 and how to use the multipad section to create dance phrases that you can bring into your music. Also I tear into the useless Arpeggiator section that frankly is a waste of space! Cmon Yamaha get the Arpeggiator to work with the rest of the instrument and not just sit there as a token gesture.

Sounds very much like one of my favorite Ibiza dance tracks of all time Saltwater or Offshore ? by Chicane 👋👋 This keyboard certainly has the capability to create huge dance tracks but like you say, you need to work around the niggles and missed out features. Great Video Leigh!!

Sounds really great and impressive ! It doesn't need really much. Regarding the MP recording: there are so many things missing here (quantize, ...). It would be soooo powerful, if this would be a 'real' recorder

I think you should communicate this ( recording arps and other special functions in multipad ) with YAMAHA. I think they will be very thankful for new ideas, and your channel certainly already has a certain influence and they will listen to something like that cause we talking about an high end instrument, That's why the air is getting thinner and thinner for a large number of new features and quality, which will leading into a new e.g GENOS 3. Even your idea with the multipads . They maybe could do this with firmware update.... but i think they won`t do it, cause its maybe "too big" for that, so its a point for the list of features in future By the way, i was very excited due to the fact that Yamaha "hears" my secret wishes from BEGIN (on Genos 1) to improve the sliders and knobs with leds and lights ! This was the absolute first idea i had in my head, and : now its reality. last day i sold my G1, and soon i will order my G2 - And that, by the way, is also the merit of your channel .... Thanks for many brilliant hours

Thanks for this video Leigh!…..I’m looking at buying a Genos any day now, but needed to hear if it would be able to make more modern styles and music……it’s a sod about the Arpeggiator/Multi Pads, but surely can be fixed in future update?…..as long as I can record modern drums and utilise classic sounds….I’m sure I can have fun making up my own

Hi Leigh,
try Arpeggiator and press 'hold'. I think with this tool you don't need the multipad for continuous sequence ...
Sorry if I'm wrong, I still have no Genos in Brazil ...

Hi Leigh, I love these Genos 2 videos. The sound quality is top notch and I've been waiting to see some seriously creative music crafting like this. Everyone just seems to use the Genos like the organ at Blackpool Tower. On thing that baffles me which I don't understand is why you can't quantize your work when you create styles. I've watched other videos with guys making styles and they quantize each part they add. Is the quantize only available in certain areas. It should be everywhere when you are creating parts. Every drum machine and sequencer always had a quantize function. I find it hard to believe that this modern cutting edge keyboard from Yamaha does not have quantization. I've even seen people setting different resolutions of quantization to capture tricky time signatures.

Please look deeper and share your thoughts on this. I feel this is very important because that multi-pad motif you created was not in perfect time. I liked what you were doing with the accents, but they were not nailing the beat.
