It took me a long time to get this video out, since the journey with this camera was quite an experience; from finally deciding to take the plunge and purchase it to the upgrade to the X. In this completely non-technical review, I do my best to explain the journey, why I did it, and what it did for me as a professional and a filmmaker. So should you do it too?

01:08 RED Komodo X & Sony Burano
02:54 Why the V-Raptor?

V Raptor X with appropriate accessories next to an FX6 is like a wonderfully high-end Land Rover next to a Toyota Highlander. Not too shabby but nothing like a Land Rover. The build quality, specs, incredible accessory adaptability, and incredible Redcode RAW sets it way above a Sony FX6. I was at a college game at Stanford University and saw a crew with an ARRI setup!!. You absolutely notice the sheer beauty and power of that system even just as it passes you.

V-Raptor x is badass!! Enjoy it. I think that for the majority of filmmakers, it's not a good time to buy a camera that's more than $6K. The entire film industry, narrative, documentary and TV commercials business is collapsing. Work has dramatically fallen off a cliff for most people and will only get worse in the coming months. There's a phrase going around that's "Survive till '25". . Clients are looking to penny pinch more than ever, and unfortunately we've entered the era of good enough where a Sony FX3 and especially an FX6 is good enough in the clients' eyes. For the most part, they aren't willing to pay more for a camera like the V-Raptor-X except for a tiny fraction of jobs. The Sony A7SIII and FX3 dominate production all over Asia and are used to create spots for McDonalds and Toyota in their markets. There's a reason that RED sold to Nikon. They saw the future of "good enough" and wanted to cash out while they could.

As a new Raptor X owner myself, I share a lot of the same feelings with you. I wanted a camera that inspired me every time I flick on the power switch. This camera does exactly that. Awesome video!

Congrats! Excellent choice. Burano was a letdown for me. I’m currently using KX and kept Komodo OG as well. Agree shooting on Red drives inspiration! ❤

Wow this Is the video I been waiting to see by someone thanks for this cause other than the ARRI Alexa 35, 65 and IMAX no other camera can compete plus it’s the only camera in the world with 17+ stops of DR, large format sensor w/ global shutter so in much respects it’s truly in league of its own if anything I can tell you, you future proof yourself even if the film industry is down
