Provinces of Turkey 22 EDİRNE

Показать описание
Edirne is a province located on the Thrace side of the Marmara Region of Turkey, surrounded by Kırklareli and Tekirdağ in the east, Çanakkale and the Aegean Sea in the south, Evros (Greece) in the west and Hasköy (Bulgaria) in the north. The city center is 7 km from Greece and 17 km from Bulgaria. It is a border city located on the highway connecting Turkey to Europe. It was established on the plain where the Edirne, Tunca, Arda and Meriç rivers meet.
Edirne province is generally flat and there are no mountains in the province since any elevation within the provincial borders does not exceed 500 meters. Although Korudağ is known in Edirne, this is a false information. The most important river of the province, 25% of which is forested and 57% of its lands are cultivated, is Meriç, which draws the Turkish-Greek border, with the exception of Karaağaç.
The climate of the province gets harsher as you go from south to north; While the southern part, which has a coast to the Aegean Sea, has a temperate Mediterranean climate, the northern part, where the city center is located, has a continental climate, which manifests itself with harsh winters.
Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling, which has been organized since 1357, attracts many local and foreign tourists during the summer months.
The most magnificent of these structures is Selimiye Mosque (1575), which is considered the pinnacle of classical Ottoman architecture and which Mimar Sinan called 'my masterpiece'.
