Kurt Cobain described “Come As You are” (1992) as follows : “About people, and what they’re expected to act like.”

The lyrics are contradictory and confusing, with one line negating the next… intentionally so❕

“Come as you are, as you were

Plenty of listeners have wondered if this track could also be about DRUGS*… WELL, ISN’T THAT A MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION⁉️

The band originally wanted to call the album “Sheep” (rather than “Nevermind”), a reference to people following the herd.

The cover of “Nevermind” (1991) shows a baby underwater reaching out for a dollar bill attached to a fishhook. I’s meant to symbolize the fact that we’re taught to go after money from an early age.

In Aberdeen (Washington), Cobain’s hometown, a road sign was put up in 2005. It reads : “Welcome to Aberdeen. Come As You Are.”
