🚩 Skanderbeg, a national hero of the Albanians, was the first to organize a league of Albanian princes, over which he was appointed commander in chief, in 1444. For twenty two years, in the period 1444-66, he effectively repulsed 13 Turkish invasions. His successful resistance to the Ottoman armies made him a hero throughout the Western world.

Skanderbeg was a mad lad. Never lost a battle despite facing such high odds.

There's an entire clan of Albanians working at my job. They were thoroughly impressed I knew who Skanderbeg was. The biggest guy of them had Skanderbeg tattooed on his bicep.

Greetings to the Albanians from your friends in Bulgaria!

Skanderbeg is legendary. He lived and fought during the darkest age in the Balkans. The Black Death had decimated the population, the Christians were disunited and fragmented into multiple feudal states and thus fell to the Ottomans. Still he fought to the end!

Skanderbeg is forgotten in Europe today, but back then he was THE STAR. The Pope even wanted to make him the leader of the new Crusade, but unfortunately he died in Ancona. He was awarded the title "Athleta Christi". Fought against the Ottomans, at that time the most powerful army in Europe and Asia Minor, and at the same time against the Venetians, who also had very good armies. And he traveled to Naples to help the local ruler in suppressing a revolt. Even Sultan Mehmet, the conqueror of Constantinople, had great respect for him and called him the shield and sword of Europe. Even Vivaldi wrote an opera in his name. He won 25 battles against the Ottomans, which, as already mentioned, had the most powerful army in Europe and Asia Minor, and always outnumbered, sometimes even 3 times behind. Who knows how many more victories he won in his time with the Ottomans? Anyone who says Skanderbeg is nothing special is quite simply an idiot.

This guy deserves a movie or TV series

The fact that Albania currently has the symbols of this great general as its flag is a sample of how important he was, I hardly knew anything about his history, but this video encouraged me to read more about him. I love that this channel talks about impressive military leaders from the rest of Europe, who are generally ignored. The fact of knowing the tactics of his adversaries made him a very difficult opponent for the Ottomans, I hope to see more videos about his history.

As a catholic albanian, this is a suprisingly well researched video, I applaud you for your work, I have learned things previousy unknown to me and found some bittersweet truths behind the legend and might of Gjergj Kastioti and other Albanian nobility, but for sure one thing is true, united under Christ anything is possible!

These documentaries are riveting. I would have never imagined animated blocks could be so exciting. You are providing a great service to the understanding of history.
