Greek singer and multi-instrumentalist Makis Sevilogou (Μάκης Σεβίλογλου) was introduced to me by the Albanian group, Saz'iso, while cycling through the region. We recorded this performance together in Kastoria during an evening of eating, drinking, and philosophizing. Very Greek! Despite the geographical closeness between Kastoria and Albania (30 or so kilometers), the language, culture, and music are worlds apart.

The son of Greek economic immigrants, Makis Sevilogou, was born in Germany in 1967. He lived there until the age of six before moving back to a village in Greece called Grevena. To this day, he lives down the road in the town of Kozani, leaving his beloved town only for studies and military service. He worked as a contract archaeologist from 1993 to 2000 but started to realize his musical calling in 2001.

In this video, Makis is singing Apopse St' Oneiro Mou, his own composition based on a traditional regional song.
