3:51 Honestly, that looks more like a DMU from the Genesis line than a cab car.

Those non-powered control units are like what we have in the UK on the intercity 225s. One end is a locomotive and the other is a DVT (driving van trailer). You can usually tell which is which by which pantograph is raised, although some classes have a through-train connection.

Very much like all your videos- very informative especially due to your narrative. Only got into watching train videos/documentaries recently.
Thanks again.

This makes more sense. I thought the cab cars had traction motors themselves. I learned something new about cab cars. Thank you for this information!

Just starting this series. I love it already from the first episode. My 3-year-old loves this channel, by the way. haha

Why are there so many different styles of Amtrak cars- both 1 level and 2 level?
I love your shots of SD county- especially in Cardiff I always park by the train tracks to surf!

Back in the UK when I was a kid (50‘s-early 60‘s) we had steam pulled push pull trains with a cab car (driving trailer) on some branch lines.

Those clips of Cascade train in San Diego, 1000 miles from its Pacific Northwest home, truly surprised me.
