Iconic 1972 hit trashing actor Warren Beatty. It was decades before she admitted who it was about in order to maintain both of their privacy. It wasn't a real shock to most of us since we already knew who her love interests had been up to that point and his ego and philandering ways were well known. Such a beautiful and talented woman. I had a celebrity crush on her for years. Other great songs by her are: Anticipation, You Belong To Me, Coming Around Again and Like A River. Those will get you started on this relatively underrated lady. She was married to James Taylor (Yes, THAT James Taylor that you have reacted to before with the incredible voice and lyrics) for years until their disparate schedules tore them apart, but they still remain friends

The background vocals were Carly and Mick Jagger. Originally she had invited Harry Nilsson to sing background with her. Mick just showed up at the studio and they invited him to sing with them. Harry said the 3 part harmony wasn’t working so he told Carly to sing the background with Mick. Even though Harry was initially going to sing, he never did.

It's telling and a bit pathetic that a number of today's artists (or this generation's artists) lift or "sample" hooks from past classics of the 60s, 70s, or early 80s because they don't have the ability to create an original hook, and they don't widely or publicly credit the original performing artist. This arguably misleads today's listeners who think the hook was an original and not a copycat version.
