Sony RX100V vs A6500

In this video I compare the Sony RX100V with the Sony A6500. I've shot with both cameras for a couple months now, and I think I have a favorite sony camera for vlogging. That's right, the RX100V. It is smaller, cheaper, and easier to use. That being said it comes with its drawbacks. I'd also never use the RX100V for professional purposes. We'll compare video quality, low light, features, ease of use, and more. Hope I can help you find the best camera to use!

Tried both. Loved the rx100 but the audio was the deal breaker for me and we went for the 6500.

If they make the rx100 with an audio input it's a nobrainer. Also nice you mention the Joby ;) love those.

That portability and simplicity of the rx100v is very hard to beat. I just sold my nex 5r and 4 lenses to buy this rx100V. I couldn't be more happier.

Personally, when you buy an RX100V, you're choosing a camera that provides you with what no other camera can. Best in class video, and stills with a EVF. The EVF, in this form factor, for me... is so key for taking stills outdoors. Without one... it doesn't matter the specs.. it would be pointless for photography. The speakers, considering the form factor, are rather good. Especially if you put little dead cat material around the speaker holes. Given the fact that you can record in s log too.. and grade video professionally in makes a powerhouse for a grab and go camera.

the RX100 V is for vlogs and casual personal shooting. I don't want to carry around my 6500 while I'm walking around town or going for a hike, but the RX100 I could clip to my belt.

Overall good review but I think a very important thing to note is that so many times you talked about something being unacceptable for professional use on the rx100 but that's not what Sony made it for. Most people would say the a6500 isn't even acceptable for professional use but they didn't design the rx100 for that. 5 minutes of 4k is plenty for its customer. I don't think many professionals are using an rx100 on a tripod and recording an interview. Just my thoughts. For the size, as you mentioned the rx100 is extremely powerful and high quality for stuff like vlogs and run and gun fun stuff.

I'm looking to rent a RX100 V for my trip to Japan and I like to vlog my stories on snapchat, IG etc so I wanted something to take with me that's easy to use. It just sucks that the audio isn't that great. I've seen videos where they put wind muffs over the camera to help with the wind noise... Any other recommendations for a camera to take with me that would have an external mic option?

Great job, but I'd have few practical questions about the RX100 M5.

Did you experienced overheating in 1080p ?
Does it overheat when you film in 120fps ?

You can read everywhere that It drains the battery very quickly.
In real world use, for vlogging you record multiples smalls clips of course, but when you put all these together, do you have an idea of how long you can record in 120fps before emptying the battery ?

Can you record in 1080p while using a powerbank...without overheating issues ?
