#Achilleion is the famous palace built in Corfu, Greece, by the Empress Sissi, wife of Emperor Franz Josef. Sissi, an extremely beautiful woman, but also a very sad and depressed one, fell in love with the Greek Island of Corfu, after she had spent a few holidays here and she wished to spend more.
The whole palace is dedicated to Achilles, the Greek hero, endowed with great strength. They say that Sissi was very impressed by his legend and also equalled his memory with that of her unique son, Rudolf, who had committed suicide. Rudolf's death got Sissi profoundly depressed. In fact, this palace was built approximately a year after his death.
Achilleion is full of Greek statues and paintings.
