Please note: Before buying any parts or tools, shop around, question the supplier and make sure you know what you are buying before you make the purchase. Be aware that repairing your own screen could invalidate your warranty and you do so at your own risk.

You will need the following items to carry out this screen repair:

Hi Will,

My son (32) knocked my phone out of my hands (accidentally) and my phone landed on some concrete slabs completely smashing the screen.

I just followed your superb video and saved myself quite an amount of money - thanks for taking the time to make these video's. My son's now a relieved man!

Worked perfectly thank you for making the effort to produce the how-to... (just repaired a 5 year old phone, still going strong, minus the dropping and smashing)

In my humble opinion, everything's worth having a look at. Thank you once again!

Thanks a lot!
Your tutorial saved me quite some money, as the repair shops were I tried to buy the spare part (Front Cover Touchscreen) all calculated their price with an new LCD despite I clearly said I wanted only the Touchscreen changed, not the LCD. Tomorrow i'm going to replace it myself.

Hey there, Glad you found it useful and that you saved the money. Yes, it's much easier buying a complete digitiser and frame unit, rather than gluing the new digitiser to the old frame. It's only slightly cheaper but it takes much longer than using a complete unit.

Hi there,

Ok, thank you for the details. I suggest you take the new screen off again and re-install it to begin with so that you can check that all of the connections are correctly in place. This will then help you to eliminate loose connections as a cause of the problem. Whether the magnetic speaker touching the motherboard has caused this, I cannot tell. However, it could be that the screen is faulty too, in which case you might want to ask for an exchange with yr supplier if under warranty

Good instructions, really saved me a bunch of money. However, a T-9 screwdriver proved to be too large, a T-6 was what I needed. Also, you should have mentioned how to remove the old adhesive. Rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip does the trick.

Hi Victor,

This is a problem with the screen on the Nokia Lumia 820. When it is cracked/broken it has affects the whole screen. In other words, even though it is broken in one small area, the complete will not function. Therefore, you have to replace the screen. The lights underneath are not attached to the screen. When you buy a new screen (recommendations above in the description), make sure you buy one which has the frame included. It's much easier to place onto your Nokia. Regards, Will

Hi Zhouji,

Bad luck with your phone. If you look at the notes above (beneath the video), you will some links to replacement screens for the Nokia Lumia 820 which are available on eBay UK and Amazon UK where you will also see how they are described. Use the same description on the US versions of the sites to get the right part. Also, make sure you buy the digitiser (touch screen) which comes with a frame. It's a much easier job then buying a digitiser without the screen. I hope that helps.

Hi Elle, thanks for your comments. Sometimes the screw sizes seem to vary with this phone, based on the feedback I'm getting. Good point about the adhesive. I will add in a note on the video.

It's a good point. I never buy anything from any supplier with a ratings score of less than 99.4%. Also, don't go for the cheaper supplier. They're often cheap for a reason. Buy the best quality you can.

+samanta jauce Yes, you can replace the LCD only beneath the top screen (digitiser).
