I hated Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, but I have no strong feelings either way on Daisy Ridley as an actress. The problem with the films was the scripts and lack of planning, not her as an actor.

I have a theory. They liked Damon’s story but wanted to have a prologue, so they have a new Rey movie that will lead into older Rey. They wouldn’t want to waste all the middle years with Rey while Daisy is still young and interested. Could be a Trilogy they just don’t want to announce yet to face backlash. Damon and Disney are just hush hush about it. Clearly if he felt slighted who wouldn’t be so eager to say he’d come back.
