When I go fishing I always like to know what the record fish is just in case I catch a potential #recordbreaker. Flathead Catfish, or Pylodictis olivaris, is a freshwater fish native to North America. They have a broad robust body, reaching over 3 feet long and weighing more than 100 pounds. They have a mottled brown or olive back that blends into a paler yellow to cream color on its sides, with a white belly, a flathead and a wide mouth. They like slow-moving still water, in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, with muddy or rocky bottoms that have submerged structures like logs, rocks, and undercut banks. #fishing #catfish #catfishing #flathead

Flathead Catfish are not primarily scavengers but are active predators eating fish, crayfish, and aquatic insects. They hunt at night and in low light conditions and can be caught on live bait, crankbaits, spinners, spoons, streamers, nymphs and other larger flies. They are known to be large and fight like crazy so using heavy fishing equipment is a must. The World Record Flathead Catfish weighs 123 lb 0 oz caught in Elk City Reservoir, Kansas by Ken Paulie May 1998. #monsterfish #flyfishing #arizona
