Looking At EU4 In 2019 - Is It Worth The Price?

Europe Universalis 4 is a game that's been out for just about 6 years now! Yet it scares off a lot of players with the numerous DLC, a lot of which are quite necessary for even basic enjoyment of the game. Instead of answering which DLC you should get, I'll be answering if you should begin your investment in the first place!

I clicked on this because I was undecided on whether I should buy this game with all DLC or pay off my student university debt

My first taste of the addiction led me to sleep deprivation and slight hallucinations. I've toned it down and I get more sleep. I only have out loud conversations with myself and my generals about strategy in public now.

PS: Only the first sentence is true.

4:35 You will always get stutters at speed 5, thats just how it works. Speed 5 basically tries to run the game as fast as your cpu allows it to, which means it will always stutter. The faster your cpu is, the faster the time will pass.

I've been playing EU games since 2006 with EU3, I've got easily 4000 hours in the series, and I'm nowhere near done. It's the greatest game of all time imo, worth every penny

Your learning curve actually means that you can learn almost everything in very little time...

I bought eu4 in 2015 or so because I thought civ was too easy. It was so complicated that I gave up. 2019 rolls around, I redownload it and I'm hooked trying to reach a comfortable understanding of the game so I can stop playing on very easy. Your content looks like it's going to be a gold mine of information for me. Thanks! Subbed.

I would definitely buy this game again, 2.5k hours well spent.

I am under the impression that you don't know what speed 5 is. Basically, you will always drop frames on speed 5, they game will stutter no matter how beastly your pc is, and that is because speed 5 makes the time go as fast as your computer allows it to. On a weaker pc the days will just pass more slowly when you hit maximum speed than on a stronger, more expensive machine.

He's right, this is literally the single greatest grand strategy game ever. And I've played em all. EUIV is a special gem.

I will say this though. People have been hopping on the Paradox bandwagon, and that's awesome, it really is, however, they don't understand paradox's business model and complain about the worst things to complain about. The reason EUIV is the single greatest grand strategy game ever is due to the LONG development cycle, they've been working on it for years, it was in development for probably a few years, now it's been out for six years, and steadily receiving new content, and expanded gameplay that entire time. Paradox continues to update, upgrade, and add content to it and yes, they want 10 to 20 bucks for cost of the additional development. Personally, I would take the paradox model every single time, over the standard model, which is, release a game, support it for a good year, maybe a DLC or two, and then abandon it for the next shiny new thing. Paradox delivers great games on release, that only grow in size and content, which gives us just unparalleled depth and replayability from any AAA developer. I respect the shit out of that, they don't' abandon games to chase profits, they stick with them, and make them into something truly unparalleled. And if they want 10 or 20 bucks a few times a year to keep this amazing game going, I say #shutUpAndTakeMyMoney

I watched so much of this game before buying it, bought it with no dlc, and have played so many hours. I would probably put this at three or four behind Civilization and Minecraft and maybe CS : GO. Highly recommend

DLC is essential. 1000 Hours in and I'm still loving this game. I'm still learning new things as well. It's mad. :)

Agreed that this game needs an addiction warning.

Even now towards the end of 2020 EU4 is definitely worth a buy for anyone who thinks this game looks interesting. At this point there are plentiful of sales for both the base game(up to 80% off) and the DLCs barring the latest 1(up to 50% off) so whenever such a sale pops up is the perfect time to get into EU4. If you're on the fence start with just the base game, at 80% off it's really not expensive. Than if you like it wait for the next sale(or still the same one if it's a lengthy one or you made up your mind quickly) to buy the DLCs, there are plenty of guides on which DLCs are the most important if you wish to be selective, but if you really like the game at the end of the day you'll buy them all(maybe not the immersion packs). As far as value for money goes, yes EU4 and all its DLCs is pretty expensive, however even without a discount the price per hour of enjoyment is still tiny as you will get so many hours out of EU4. When you put a sale on top of that it makes it even more worthwhile.
