Rental-friendly balcony transformation (under €300!)

Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors. However, if you prefer staying indoors, balconies can be a good compromise between the outside world and home.
Unfortunately, my balcony is not a pleasant place to spend time. The tiles are always cold and dirty, and there's no natural beauty. The balustrade feels artificial. It has become a storage space for extra furniture and neglected plants. Let's make it better!

04:15 Sadly, I have a problem with my balcony drainage. Rainwater doesn't drain completely, and it gets stuck on the green mat, which takes several days to dry out, especially in Germany

The fake grass was useful for me decades ago for a small balcony with child’s little plastic pool. It was safely non slip for little wet feet, easier sight wise in harsh daylight. Good job with your balconey. I looked and had instant fear of mosquitos and death desiring moths bombing the lights.

Your balcony looks amazing, you turned a messy, unused space into a functional and cozy summer room, I love it!. Personally I would not go for the fake grass and soft upholstery/table cloth because of rain, dirt and pigeons who, despite windmills attached to the railings to scare them away, still like to do the their dirty business on my little balcony from time to time. I just need something more practical and easier to clean. The privacy railing and solar power lights are fantastic ideas, now I want them around my balcony too! Btw, if anyone has tips for keeping pigeons away, I would be forever grateful :) Someone mentioned in the comments the lights drawing moths and mosquitos - any thoughts? I am also thinking about hanging baskets with plants or flowers outside the railing rather than placing the plants inside to save space. You truly inspired me!

Instead of “grass” I try to continue the same flooring the rest of the place has already in the other rooms. Like wood or outdoor carpet. It feels more connected then.
