Budget 2021: Freeland says Canada's 'spending is necessary'

The federal government's 2021 budget is projecting a deficit of a staggering $354 billion.

The first federal budget in more than two years extends Ottawa’s COVID-19 “lifeline” for those still struggling after a difficult year, as it aims to pull Canada through the pandemic.

But all that spending has pushed Canada’s net debt over $1 trillion for the first time ever.

Global National's Dawna Friesen spoke with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland about Canada's deepening deficit, and how soon parents can expect childcare priced at $10 per day.

You're giving hundreds of thousands to construction companies. That's not essential. Omg. And I wonder if they provisioned to bail out air Canada, whose ceo got a 6M bonus while he kept cancelled flights funds from thousands of customers.

No what's necessary is the government actually listening to its people and not creating new big spending projects filled with consultants ....why don't we raise generation on liberal consultants that's where apparently all the money goes

There is nothing sustainable about 350 billion annual debt. We need to move past this covid mess and live within our means without stealing from the unborn but I have zero expectation of that happening anytime soon.

Freeland has lost the public confidence now due to massive overspending.

So Canadian’s can expect another 4 tax increases in the next 12 months to try to make up for the money that has been thrown away over the last 5 years. I’m not talking about the pandemic relief money!

What a joke. We are screwed. I'm so happy I didn't have kids. The future generations aren't going to be able to afford anything.

Freelands duty is to bankrupt Canada 🤣 She doesn't have any interest in helping Canadians only increasing the bill we have to pay.

To all you government employees..enjoy these tax increases seeing as you'll be the major contributing party within 2 years. Should've spoke up when the chance was there.
