She was a teen idol back in the day. The song was written by Neil Sedaka, who is also playing the piano part on the track. It was targeted to teenagers in the 1950's.

Hadn't heard this one before, love it. Connie had an amazing, crystal clear voice.

You should hear her sing, "Where the boys are."

She was only 20 when she recorded this. Those bouffant hairdos that were popular then are really aging to the modern eye.

She had a lot of hits in America, and even more in other countries, as she recorded in Italian, Yiddish, German, Spanish, Romanian, Japanese, and 8 other languages.
Her career was famously interrupted in 1974 when she was raped and almost killed in her hotel, which sent her into a depression that caused several interruptions in her career as she was in and out of mental institutions between 1974 and 1988.

She was younger than that picture age, when she made “Stupid Cupid”. I grew up on her movies and music. My oldest sister sounded just like her. She even looked like her when she was young. “Al Di La” is a great song by her too.

Connie Francis! My late auntie's favorite artist. Brings back so many memories of hanging at her house and listening to her play her old 45's. Thanks for the reaction.

Connie had the first rock and roll million seller by a female artist with that song. She signed her MGM recording contract at age 15. A couple of years later, Stupid Cupid hit the charts, her second of many million sellers.

Wow! That takes me back! Did you look at the dates associated with that song? You’re talking 1958!

This song was written by singer songwriter Neil Sedaka and Connie sang it in 1959 and she was around 20 years old  then and Rock & Roll records back then were bought by teenagers so the songs had teenage themes in them

When I was twelve years old I planned on marrying Connie Francis. I am 72 now and it still hasn't happened. Loved hearing her sing "Mama" in Italian.

i'm a big fan since i was 5 [1962] when a friend of my mother's bought me a 45 of hers in the UK DON'T CRY ON MY SHOULDER/MR TWISTER MGM 1151.I got hooked on the song and her vocal. But the song that made me was IT WOULD STILL BE WORTH IT rec 25th Jan 1960.It's just power and emotion. You must give it a try. my collection on vinyl etc on her exceeds 1000.

Back in the day we use to go to school record hops (sock hops) . It was a fun time. Yes girls hair & makeup made them look older . Connie was 20 when the song came out.

This rhythm and sound of this reminds me of Bobby Darin's "Splish Splash"

Love it! She was my dad's favourite singer - well her and Petula Clark. So my childhood in the 70s was full of all that brilliant 50s and 60s stuff.
