I remember eight tracks but as separate units from the stereo. This is the way my dad got them.

My brother Jackie had that round 8 track radio 📻! The 8 tracks were all over the house!

My first FM car stereo was a bolt on under the dash Sparkomatic. Everything was AM only on "regular" cars. $14.95 at Kmart in 1977.
