I'm in love with this desktop environment. I want to use it in my Arch Linux setup as soon as it is ready. System76 devs are amazing, this looks so good.

Cosmic gets more and more impressive with each update, this is going to be the desktop to beat.

If you haven't already, could you make a video doing side-by-side compare/contrast to show the differences between the Rust-based Cosmic and the GNOME Cosmic?

I'm hoping system76 gives the file manager some attention, I feel like none of the current file managers are good, I would look to see a file manager that integrates the best ideas of all of them.
A few things that I like:
- Dolphin's customization + integration with extract apps such as Ark.
- Nemo Actions from Nemo (Or just look at what Linux Mint is doing with context menus in general)
- Miller Collums from Pantheon Files
- Nautilus... I think system76 is already inheriting the visual consistency from Nautilus but using their own style.
- Idk what to talk about Thunar, is a great file manager but I don't remember anything special in particular. I've been using Pantheon Files and Dolphin most of the time.

Pop os is still my favorite Linux distribution. I tried Ubuntu, pop os, and arch.

I always dreamed of a snappy, light, polished, modern, with great workflows, and visually cohesive desktop environment, cosmic seems to be the one.

For now, my WIP shallow observations are:
-the scrollbars have different looks between apps,
-the rounded buttons that toggle menus are not scaled properly around the text (horizontally too small),
-app settings menus look too spaced and too vertical only to handle future more complex settings cases (it needs left side vertical tabs such as the setting app itself I think)
-in the settings, a top search field that filters the matching settings in real-time would be great to have.
-on the left side menu for cosmic-files and cosmic-edit, the selected highlight file or folders is too rounded (makes it look like google), it would look better with rounded rectangle that fits with the rounded rectangle frame around instead of a capsule shape.
-in cosmic text, making the line number column, slightly brighter or darker background than the editable text zone would be nice to have.

I'm sure most of these are on their TODO list, because I can feel this team knows what being a perfectionist is.
If I can be so picky looking at a pre-pre-alpha non-official build, that means this desktop environment has all the good genes to become excellent.

These changes are looking great! They're really looking to make Cosmic very easy to pick up and use ootb, which is a massive W. Getting strong Hyprland vibes from these changes, and I'm all for that.

Looks great and I'm very excited about it.
Would be nice to know, if:
1. Is there an option to split screen in the file manager? (like in MC / Dolphin / Nemo) and a an option to see the whole file system?
2. Does the terminal support split screen?
Do you have any info's about that?

I'm looking forward to giving the new DE a good trial run, when it's officially released. 🙂

Are we to be able to deactivate the Window hint? (The blue frame around the window)

thank you for the update, i'm curious about something, why does everything look so small, like the buttons on the top right or folder icons in the file manager, is it just your monitor or a design choice, and is it possible to remove those workspace indicators

awesome video, this project is so exciting. however, I feel like the video was a lot more padded out than it needed to be. you don't need to explain every terminal color that's on the screen in detail and you don't need to explain how bash works, that's just not very relevant, for example. a lot of things that imo were obvious at first sight were explained in excruciating detail in general
