Gabe you son of a bitch!! Lol nah totally get it man! I honestly do the same exact thing. I barely watch any YouTubers these days and definitely not my self-development friends in the space. I find that it narrows your own creative vision and I begin to compare myself to others more often (and that makes me feel crappy). Appreciate all the love and support you've given my videos over the years. Your videos are really great and you've grown so much since I've seen them last! Keep up the good work!

So I’m 64 and have been a minimalist before it became popular. I follow numerous minimalist channels and garner things from each. More along what we have common and enjoy the diversity of each person’s journey. I can see where you’re take away could cloud your perspective. However being yourself is also a compilation of learned from life and other mentors. Keep doing your thing your way. Enjoy it

This video is really well put together! I don’t watch other self improvement YouTubers anymore pretty much for the same reason. Pewds is the man 👨

I don`t think " orginality" is so important. You can watch 1000 different chefs make omelette. They are all great and make it a little bit different. Non of them invented the omelette. Who cares who invented coca cola. The inventor sold it for nothing and even dident see the value in his own creation. What matters is that you like doing the things you do. I watch your videos not because you invented minimalism. I watch them because i like watching how you interpret " minimalism". If it`s 1% different from how i live it. It`s that 1% im interested in. Even if you copy Mats style, your copy is just a copy of how he copyd Fumio Sasaki. And Fumio made a copy of Konmari, and she learnd it from working in a shinto shrine. Orginality is so overrated. Just remember to give people credit when you use their style. Have a great day

I'm looking forward to seeing Matt's comment on this 😁

I Follow, then unFollow people/subjects all the time. You master a subject, then move on. Life is good.

I don’t think he cares, in fact, he probably encourages this.

Love the honesty in this Gabe, i think so many people experience this but are too afraid to say it. Its being human.

This video seems pointless. Matt d’avella says in his videos that what he does might not be for everyone and that’s fine. He is a great mentor and you only need to copy the stuff that might apply to you and you can chose to do that. You’re allowed to stop watching him but making a video about it just seems like you want to put his name in a video title for views

I stopped watching Matt D’avella too. I stopped because his content was getting monotonous actually. I think it’s hard to make it interesting in the long run when having a channel about ONE thing. So now I watch minimalism content with a more personal touch without the cinematic effects. Matts content is beautiful yes but that’s not what I’m looking for in videos on youtube.

I think most creatives can relate to this video. Honestly, what I like the most about your channel is how self-reflective & transparent you are about your journey. I actually find that pretty admirable. 👍

I appreciated this. I’m a “mini-youtuber, ” and I have a lot of people here that I look up to... and I’m definitely guilty of copying them sometimes. Even though we can’t completely separate ourselves from the influence of those we admire, it’s so important to find our own voice as creators.

When I was younger I enjoyed being unique to the extreme that whenever something became trendy or popular i convinced myself to dislike it in order to not be like everyone else because it would conflict with my sense of self🤦‍♀️...but disliking what i liked was not allowing me to be my true self. Now I know better.

This is a thought that I truly connect with, I’ve recently started the content creation lifestyle, I’ve found that just stepping away from the internet will bring more natural and more personal content to your mind.

Totally understand how you feel and couldn't agree more that whatever we see and absorb eventually made us who we are for better or worse.
But I can see you are constantly improving yourself and you are doing well with your videos man! 👍

Massively relate to many of the points here. Throughout the pandemic I stepped away from most social media (mainly as comparison to a highlight reel was making me feel rubbish), but I was surprised to find that without the noise of influence I've started to find my own voice, my own thoughts and opinions and felt less of a need to achieve certain things because 'everyone else has that'.

I think this is your best video Gabe. When I'm at a loss of ideas for videos I'll binge other channels until I think of something, this is inspiring me to sort of just film what I want rather than try to be like the other super successful channels

This was such a smart, well thought out video. There are influences everywhere and it's important to spend time with yourself and live authentically.

I was searching “how to potty train a two year old” and this was among the suggested video in the search 😅. Well, hi stranger talking about another stranger 😆. Wish me luck I’m about to potty train a two year old
