Since the world is relying almost fully on virtual events as of the beginning of last year, there have been and continue to be many keynotes and presentations, which would normally happen in front of a live audience, that have shifted into a digital setting. With that change major adjustments are needed, because, in fact, virtual keynotes aren’t the same as keynotes which are held in front of a live audience, and so we should not simply copy our keynotes one-to-one within a virtual environment.

Last year, Apple set a new standard for virtual keynotes with the presentation of the iPhone 12, despite the fact that this keynote was pre-recorded. Nevertheless, they did a really great job, adjusting their whole setting, mixing it up with optimal transitions between on-stage performance and performance within a virtual room. They even managed to convey their emotions surrounding their products, across this digital (and usually quite distanced) medium. And that is important for any keynote: no matter how or where they are held, especially for speaking about work- and motivation-related topics.

I am really curious about what will happen in the future with regard to public speaking. For now, give it some thought about what changes you could take to add to your online/digital speaking cases or presentations, and I am certain that you will create your own outstanding keynote!

I fully agree for mic and camera. If you can't afford a dslr, a good webcam (no worries with logitech) can do the job. But at least, don't hesitate for mic. There are good USB mic around 100€.
