My favorite part about this performance is that Chris colfer casually brought up this song to Ryan Murphy and he was like "yeah that could be funny" then he absolutely killed it in the best way possible.

He already lost his mom, and was terrified of losing his dad due to not being the son he had hoped for. That on top of always being overshadowed by his friends especially Rachel. You see all of that in this performance.

When I was 12 and saw this scene on TV guide, not knowing the context, I freaked out. I gut knew he was talking to his dad about being gay. And then he talked to his dad about being gay (lol). The line that stuck with me was "it wasn't for me dad" and 7 years later I've thus found this song. I was scared out of my mind at the time because it reminded me of the very thing I couldn't and didn't want to be. And it seemed that gay themed things followed me around. I was just watching TV guide as an anxiety ridden 7th grader and here was a clip I just happened to be seeing that stirred in me the deepest kind of anxiety. Anxiety because I couldn't get rid of the constant feeling of being gay myself. Clearly I was (unjustly) traumatized because I so distinctly remembered that line and the talk after about baseball and girls that lead me here today.

Looking at it now, this is a heartfelt song and talk that resonates with me. For some reason though it was so scary to me then. I'm upset I was made to feel that way. Anyway, it wasn't for me, mom. It wasn't for me, dad. It wasn't for me. It just is.

Its heartbreaking when you know the emotions he is feeling the anger, resentment, and some amount of defeat but the difference is that not all of us have what Kurt had he had the most amazing father and support system some of us dont so those feelings of resentment etc never really go away
