Fr now, an exposed nerve is no joke, i've heard some stories of people having some and even if you slid around something soft it was so unbearable that they'd rather have 3rd degree burns so their nerves would burn and go numb

Whenever I see this meme I think of the movie 127 hours. There's this scene where he cuts off his own arm with a pocket knife and finally gets to the nerves, and the acting, visual effects and sound effects do a great job at depicting what it'd feel like.
