Key characteristics: Relief very slightly lower than quartz (subtle), clear in plane-polarized light, with no pleochroism, low interference colors (white), tartan twinning (microcline), perthite (albite exsolution), carlsbad twinning (sanidine), clay alteration (brown "staining").
