We paid for seats but only used the edge. She modernized opera by acting naturally and not merely relying on her God given vocal ability. She has never been equalled as I write in 2020. RIP Ultimate Diva.

Absolutely wonderful! Her Tosca is still the reference... what still amazes me is the tempo of the orchestra, it isn’t waiting for anybody, no time to prepare, to think, just deliver... is frenetic, like a machine... and Gobbi is like a toreador, closing on her, closing on her, you hear it in the orchestra and you hear it in the voices... For a moment you are not listening to music, it is something else, it trascends, it becomes part of you and for ever changed you are, nothing sounds the same or alike... you have witnessed art.

I don't know how many times I've watched Act ll of Tosca. Yet seeing this fragment again, my reaction was, 'How COULD he torment this woman that way?' Her reactions were so convincing as to make art supercede life.
