Classroom Transformation: Under the Sea | Falling in Love With Teaching Again VLOG 39

My new school has a “Transformation Room” that the PTA sets up for the entire school to use for engaging lessons with students! The first transformation room for this school year is an “Under the Sea” theme and I’m not exaggerating when I say it is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I’m so excited to take you behind the scenes and show it to you! I take you on a full tour of the room, show you the math activities I’m using for the lesson (which I’m also sharing with you for FREE), and what I’m wearing to match the theme. Seriously, get ready for your jaw to drop because mine certainly did… my PTA outdid themselves for sure!

What an incredible community. The transformation room is amazing! Using it for math the way you are doing it is perfection. It definitely could be used for a great science lesson on food chains, or oceans!

Thank you for the pep talk at the end. I love this transformation and will use this information differently. As a Pre-K teacher who has a unit with the culminating project being about a coral reef, I will explore the materials used in this room to enable my students to make a coral reef and teaching materials (slides, task cards) as instructional materials at their level. I would love a video on how you handle “bad” behaviors. I loved your videos on behavior management but what about those kids who just don’t want to work/don’t care? Those children discourage me so so much!

Reminds me of VBS setup. We had under the sea type themes a few years. I know that our church would sometimes keep decorations. Teachers may be able to make connections to get decorations from churches or libraries or other organizations after they have a theme event. Share the love of decorations/theme elements. So much fun!

Thank you for the reminder at the end. It's easy to fall into the instagram trap of seeing everyone being great and criticizing yourself. I care for all my students, it's just the decor stuff I lack skill in, but it is nice to see something so amazing.

Happy Tuesday, Michelle! I hope you had a wonderful birthday yesterday. The room transformation was incredibly creative and I'm sure it will inspire lots of students as they learn in that classroom. I enjoyed all of your themed activities. That will be both fun and academically rigorous for your kiddos. I really agree with your statement about making sure that teaching and learning don't become stale. There are so many routines we have to do in teaching that it is challenging to find time for creativity. The transformation room really supports creativity while still making academics a priority.
