I have never watched anything so relatable as the several minutes of struggle to fit the foldable LED sheets and diffuser into the 3D printed mounts. Thank you for not editing those out 😄

I know it can cause the lights to appear a bit dimmer, but I LOVE the look of a diffuse film applied directly to the surface of the LEDs, and then a second panel about a centimeter or half-inch away from that. Really softens the glow in a beautiful way, and sometimes I've swapped the diffusing films for the diffraction films used inside flatscreen TVs and monitors, since it's super easy and cheap (or free) to get a broken screen and harvest the films from it.

Well that was a bright Idea!
It does look great in that shade.

8:55 I think your 5v power injection should connect directly to all the pos/neg wires on the panels rather than feeding all the current to boards 2, 3 & 4 via board 1?

A bit off topic but was wondering if you have a video on logging data to an SD card with the ESP32.
I'm in the middle of a project to make a data logger for my friend's race car.
Logging braking force (g force when on the brakes), brake disc temperature and brake fluid temp and pressure.
I'm using SD_MMC in 4 bit mode (arduino ide by the way) and it works fine, but I'm not sure if there's a faster way.
Pretty sure that you have a much greater understanding on this subject than me so if you've done a video (or fancy doing one) I'd be very interested in studying.
Thanks for all your other great videos. They've been a big help 😊
Cheers

hah! Yes, we must always make a sacrifice to the PCB gods... it's nice when they accept a mislabeling rather than demand a short circuit. The flame lamp is mighty nice. cheers

Regadring the CBR (Cost/Benefit Ratio)... also the classic Plasma lamps, that made the movie THE GOONIES so interesting in the 80ies, is way ahead. JMHO.

I remember at the end of last century... I spent hours in finding solutions for colorful lights... at a reasonable cost. And dreamed of having the possibilty to choose any arbitrayry color... these days the worst I can think of is rainbow flashing lights... LOL³ But the LED advancements are really great esp. if you ever coded a PWM for an RGB led yourself. I did that for a Teensy based MIDI controller... RGB workd fine... just that it would distort the ADCs for the MIDI signals... BUMMER!!!

Your camera shutter is likely running at the same refresh rate at the screen.

I like your project... but have to say... it cannot beat the magic of a classic LAVA-LAMP that was so popular in the nineties... just some additional THC... and it was more interesting than any TV show... (>_<*)

"not sure how youtube works anymore"

neither do youtube 🤣🤣
I wonder if some tie wraps around the tube might help make it more cylindrical, and manageable. nice light 2x. 👍

What kind of plastic are you using as diffuser?

Hi, looks like a really good project. What did you use for the diffuser?

Chris, I sent a message on discord about the raspberry pi pico power supply issue. Can you suggest anything on it?

I bought one of those square matrix, like 16x16 and it has never done anything but take up room, i could never get anything to run it or anything. I bought it to have 2 round red circle eyes that would go back and forth and maybe even follow a motion for my robot, just money wasted, zero online anywhere, the story of chinese electronics, never anything to help.
