Lock Picking Master M1 Magnum

I was having a ton of problems with picking this Master M1 Magnum. So much so that I got a blister. I found this really neat tool called a Plug Spinner over at Peterson Lockpicks. Hopefully this video

Thanks, I tried to Rake and pick an M1 for the last few hours, and wanted to give up. After this video I tried spp'ing it while tensioning it counterclockwise and finally it worked!

ive been fighting one of these M1s for a long time. still havent gotten it open, but now i know whats been stopping me. much appreciated!

Thank you...that Master Lock was kicking my back side. I don't have a spinner but picked in CCW which is good enough for now! Picking should be about getting past the next road block even if you are driving on the wrong side of the road to do it.

Just bought this same lock today and that spring tension is the first thing I noticed. Looks like I got some work on my hands.

Thanks! That's awesome. I was having a lot of trouble picking cw, and didn't even think to try ccw. $65 seems a bit steep for the plug spinner, but I'll probably just make my own similar tool.

I've got the magnum m5 and its tricky. the spring pressure is high alright, but it can be done clockwise, but it takes some man handling. For me, extra force on the tension bar and using a simple hook works well.  Don't be scared to really push on the pins.

So, I don't have any formal experience in locksport, and I'm a bit confused as to what exactly the plug spinner did.  Was the lock already picked, with everything in the right position save for it being turned, or did the plug spinner actually carry out all of the operation needed to force the lock by itself?

Got a m1 magnum and i have the exact issue. For the life of me i cant get it the proper direction but effortlessly the wrong direction.. gonna get a plug spinner soon lol

How do you tension it other way, ccw? The piece of metal is blocking me at bottom. What do you call that thing anyway? The key stop or whatever. I'm trying to rake it.
