Richard Feynman was a brilliant Nobel Prize winning physicist - but also had a "rock 'n roll" personality.

Feynman has always been my most loved scientist. I still feel a bit depressed just knowing we've lost such an incredible scientist.

he has been one of the most, if not, the most influential person in my life so far :)

Feynman is just awesome in every way! He was brilliant, he was funny, he was a bit of a player, he knew how to party, he played in a street band, he was a fun writer, and most importantly, he is an inspiration.

I remember as a child my dad used to explain scientific things to me, my dad was just a plumber but he had a very good understanding of physics. he used to explain things like how a train works, or how a volcano works but one thing he got wrong was e=mc2 for some reason he thought this was newtons theory of relativity only recently was I able to explain to him what this really means (and now I can explain it even further thanks to your recent video on the subject)

Wow. I did not know he did the Challenger investigation. The fact that he could navigate that political and financial minefield and come out with an answer that would cause some sense of resolution for the public but not destroy any of the MIC entities responsible demonstrates his genius. I wonder if he wrote out a diagram to figure out how to do that...
I love Vi Hart's shout out to him in her vids on hexa-flexagons!

I remember the first time I had heard Feynman explain the greater appreciation of a flower and nearly falling out of my chair as I had used that same analogy long before hearing it from him. My concept was slightly different tho; about how a rose is not just beautiful and smells nice - but which is very much related to me, bringing me ever closer to nature. ...And that was only akin to something like a "1st grade thought" for him!

He's since infected his fascination of particles upon me.

"'Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!': Adventures of a Curious Character" is a great book (written by the man himself) when you want to get an insight into Mr Feynman's life. Get the audiobook if you don't like reading.

The movie Infinity (directed by Matthew Broderick) I found like a watered down version of his book, so you can skip it if you want to go straight to the book, or watch it first as an intro into the book.

He is one of my favourite scientists too - mostly because he was asked if we understood x and he went away and came back and said "I cannot write a first year graduate lecture on this so no we do not understand it fully"

Alex Filippenko is definitely up there when explaining astronomy. I thoroughly recommend his lectures with "The Teaching Company"!

These videos just leave me thirsting to become a scientist.

"Surely you're joking, Mr Feynman!" - greatest book ever, no exceptions.

I loved his direct honest approach. How do scientists develop a theory ?
We guess .
But then he explains ( in a beautifully funny way ) what that means.

That's the same edition of the Feynman Lectures I have!

You forgot to mention his impertinent attitude and pranks and habit of going to the strip club. And his symbolic bongo drums.

"Slightly rock and roll-character"... you left the bit out with the bongo drums, gambling in Vegas, nude drawings and strip club testimonial!
