@Ffojt Because the rum balls are not cooked in any way, the alcohol will not "cook off" - so there will still be alcohol in the final product. But it should be noted that 1 tablespoon of Rum for every 30-50 balls is almost nothing, so I wouldn't worry about anyone getting drunk!

@MarryMeLancel No, the alcohol won't burn out. But there is such a small amount of alcohol in this recipe it shouldn't be an issue. You'd have to eat hundreds of them to even get close to drunk! If you like, you can use Rum Flavoring instead ;)

Some random fact: These are "Rumkugeln" in Germany. There's also a verb "rumkugeln" which means "rolling around" :D

Love this recipe! Made them last Christmas and they were amazing! Making them again this year! Only I used about 30 ml of rum instead of just 1 teaspoon. But it was delicious and just the right amount of rum flavor!

Another tip, you can also use peppermint oil or extract to replace te rum

@alwy963 Basically, melting chocolate with a double boiler allows the chocolate to remain glossy when it re-sets (if you are using it to coat something) However, if the melted chocolate is going to be mixed with other ingredients (like this recipe) that isn't necessary ;)

@Knittingand Absolutely - Chocolate Peppermint Balls are awesome. You could also use Vanilla or even Orange Essence :)

@katiebaby1 Don't use wine. I recommend using a liqueur like Kahlua, Bailey's or Tia Maria. You could also use something non-alcoholic like Vanilla Essence, Orange Essence or Peppermint Essence ;)

@xWithBrokenWingsx Wow it does too - I hadn't noticed that!

These are the rum balls I know and loved as a child, though the ones I used to eat had real rum in them.  I used to get drunk at school on a few of them

@MsIzzy805 No, you can use something else if you like. Peppermint Essence is good ;)

@jezika87 A spiced rum would be fine. Any dark rum would be suitable for this recipe ;)

Yes, you can use anything you like ;)
