My father always used to play this in his study when I was a little girl. I grew up listening to classical. He plays it still!

I heard this piece on the radio and loved it right away! It is so different form his symphonies!

Never would have guessed Mahler! My best guess would have been some unjustly forgotten Russian like Sergey Taneyev or Alexander Grechaninov. After sampling their piano trios, I like them as much or more! Thank you Gustav for enticing me to discover such wonderful music never heard on radio (where Boccherini's minuet and fandango and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik are heard too often). Chamber music in general, of the 19th century and early 20th is a treasure trove of beauty, tenderness, intimacy.

This quartet was played to me by a friend who asked my opinion re its composer. I was stumped. And amazed at the answer. A gorgeous work often on my player! A first class recording here expected of the Borodins.
