That transition (3:11 to 3:21) when Ben Kingsley goes from being on stage to being in the black and white film gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME. It's flawless.

I love how Melies starts speaking so hesitantly, as he's been so removed from speaking to others for so long and has forgotten how to do it, but as soon as he begins the speech about mermaids and wizards, the years fall away and he's that young dreamer again.

One of the best children’s films ever. A true love letter to the magic of film, with a stunning performance by Ben Kingsley.

It's still gets me. This beautiful scene, shows how majestically filmmaking is more than just images, it's true passion :')

If you're a cinephile, you'll love this film.
Scorsese is the best.

This is where George's heart truly lies, not as a grumpy toy merchant in a crowded train station. But its also a pity because he finally recovered his passion 7 years before his death

"Come and Dream with me."

I saw this in 4th grade. It got me fascinated with clockworks. My teachers had shown it to the rest of my class. Those were the days when things weren't so serious. As children, we had nothing to lose. That's why the grown-ups were so sad. They're all children who had lost themselves. As I look back at my era, with one more decade of youth approaching (by current standards). I do wish to go back. When people weren't so angry. When the internet was more free. When there were wonders to behold.

I know that many are returning. We all are. We have to.
It's in our blood.

Have you ever noticed that an oscillating spring is always gently jerked back? With the climax of its force at the maxima and minima?

If you understand that. You understand not only this year, but the ages.

See you on the other side.

It will all be okay. I promise you.
But only if you believe...

The Station Inspector wearing a French military uniform decorated with a medal confirms that he indeed fought as a soldier during the Great War

This is such an underrated movie, it’s a shame people don’t talk about it more

Georges Méliès is the giant all other films makers stand upon, without him pioneering the art of special effects, the very art of film making would have been seen as a novelty little slices of life but nothing more, he put heart and story telling into his films. He's the reason we still sit there and wonder while we watch movies.

When I was a child I cried when Hugo’s dad died.
Now as an actor and scholar of the seventh art, now that I studied this man, I cry in this scene. Once again… thanks Mr Méliès.

《Cinema Paradaiso》, 《The Artist》, and this. Film pays respect to its own history.

Sir Ben might be the most underrated actor of our generation.

The artistry put in here! It's beautiful! I don't know why people thought this movie was weird. Even me. I hope I'll be able to give this film another chance over break.
