Learning about all the religions? Yes.
Having one religious leader telling children that their god does exist? No.

So simple, yet so profound.

Religion should be informationally taught in public school, but Teacher-led prayer should not be allowed. As a Christian I would not want to attend a class where the professor led the class in an islamic prayer, as that would violate everything I believe in. That is a clear violation of separation of church and state. As is teachers teaching in school that there is a God, because that only is teachable from religion. If you want a school where class led prayers and affirmations of God are part of the school's accepted practice, go to a private school. Christians would be begging for separation of church and state to be enforced in public schools if the main religion being promoted in the school was say, Islam or Buddhism.

I am powerfully opposed to teaching religion in public schools
A. America was NEVER founded as a christian country!
B. There are churches, synagogues, mosques, etc…families can have their children educated at sunday schools, etc. there is ZERO justification to push it in public schools!!!

No, schools should be there to teach about facts. Not about fairy godmothers.

The only thing is if they bring it into schools it will not just be the Christian God that they teach. Think about that.

The Founders were very specific with their words. "Endowed by their Creator." Not God, Jesus, or Yahweh, but Creator. They didn't establish a Christian nation, but a free nation. Not only free from King George, but free from the Church of England. If they said, "believe in God, " they would be no different than the Church.

You talk about the first school in America teaching the Bible and to resist the "diluter Satan" in 17th century Massachusetts. I think we all know what else happened in 17th century Massachusetts regarding religion and "resisting Satan." Is that really an example you want to use? I notice that when we taught our kids Christianity in schools, there was slavery, women had no rights, and countless other groups were persecuted. When we stopped teaching it, those institutions and beliefs slowly faded away. Remember that the future of society starts with what you teach children.

P.S. If you are a Christian, do you really want the government to teach your child about Christianity?

Public schools should teach critical thinking and only once one's brain is fully developed (~25) should they be exposed to religion.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)

Don’t despise wisdom and instruction.
Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. Believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead and you will be saved!
(Romans 10:9)

Follow Jesus; Life with Christ is INCREDIBLE!

Homeschool your children - find a way to make it happen, no excuses!

Parents are 100% responsible for the raising of their children!

While I don’t agree or endorse Chomsky on all of his content he is bang on about this. Check out John Gatto and most importantly read the bible...

“The whole educational and professional training system is a very elaborate filter, which just weeds out people who are too independent, and who think for themselves, and who don't know how to be submissive, and so on -- because they're dysfunctional to the institutions.” - Dr Noam Chomsky

"The indoctrination is so deep that educated people think they're being objective" - Dr Noam Chomsky

"Hundreds of billions of dollars are spent every year to control the public mind." Dr Noam Chomsky

But which God will they teach? Would they give an equal amount of time to every religion? Would they teach Christianity exclusively? I doubt it. 50 years ago I would say yes. Now? No.

Wrong question. We shouldn't have public school. Government sucks at it.

Religion can be taught, but as a comparative religious course (for example, equal time given to Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc). That's what we did in my high school, and I think it worked out really well.

Before you teach God in public schools, you need to prove God is not just a figment of your imagination.

In the constitution and the bill of rights it doesn’t specify it’s the Christian god

Definitely, we must teach the Scriptures and about God in schools, the kids need Jesus the most at such a time as this!

I like the way frank set up a false dichotomy.

“either your a Christian or an atheist” ( ignoring the billions of people who are neither of those things )

The reason he answered the question with this false dichotomy is that

He does not want to acknowledge that people believe gods other than his, is real .

If you open the door of the school to one god, you have to open the door to all the gods.
( otherwise you’ve crossed the line from education to indoctrination)

So either, you leave god out of the class room altogether
Or
On Monday you have a lesson from a Christian preacher
On Tuesday a Muslim preacher
On Wednesday a Buddhist
On Thursday a Mormon
Friday is Scientology day
And on and on .
Sunday school is with a Rastafarian

If you refuse to allows another religion to come into the school and preach ?
You would be accused of discrimination.

And also
You would be in direct violation of the constitution of America .

The constitution separated church and state .... for very good reasons
