► Rotterdam is an important port city in the Dutch province of South Holland. The ancient ships and exhibitions of the maritime museum retrace the naval history of the city. The 17th-century Delfshaven district is full of shops along the canal; it is also the site of the Pilgrim Fathers' Church, where pilgrims prayed before sailing to America. After being almost completely rebuilt following the Second World War, the city is now known for its modern and daring architecture.
